Introductions

Welcome to LBI (learning Bahasa Indonesia), a course for learning Indonesian language through internet. First of all, let me introduce myself, my name is Mr.Zecky. I’ll teach you how to learn Indonesian language.

Indonesian language is called Bahasa Indonesia. So, in this site, I’ll use “Bahasa Indonesia”. We’ll learn Bahasa Indonesia using fascinating studying method, by given many sentence examples that is able to be replayed anytime, so that you can visualize the structures easily. At the next lesson sessions, I’ll also give you reading with topics related to the newest issues that are occurring in Indonesia, and I’ll also give you an Indonesia song and its lyric using Bahasa Indonesia.

Learning Bahasa Indonesia is not difficult, I’d also like to show you that learning Bahasa Indonesia is great joy and an exciting adventure, not to mention that you can find it very useful some day, you don’t even know when. I’m sure that when our course is over you’ll say: “Bahasa Indonesia is great!”. So, what you’re waiting for ? Let’s begin!

Before going into the lesson, it’s better if we try to learn how to pronounce the alphabet letters in Bahasa Indonesia first. Of course it will help you to understand Bahasa Indonesia lesson that will be given next.

Ø “A” or “a”

In saying “a”, the sound is like saying word “far”.

Ø “B” or “a”

In saying “b”, the sound is like saying word “bend”

Ø “C’ or “c”

In saying “c”, the sound is like saying word “civilians”

Ø “D” or “d”

In saying “d”, the sound is like saying word “denis”

Ø “E” or “e”

In saying “e”, the sound is like saying word “ankle”

Ø “F” or “f”

In saying “f”, the sound is like saying word “everything”

Ø “G” or “g”

In saying “g”, the sound is like saying word “glad”

Ø “H” or “h”

In saying “h”, the sound is like saying word “high”

Ø “I” or “i”

In saying “i”, the sound is like saying word “evil”

Ø “J” or “j”

In saying “i”, the sound is like saying word “jelly”

Ø “K” or “”

In saying “k”, the sound is like saying word “card”

Ø “L” or “l”

In saying “l”, the sound is like saying word “elbow”

Ø “M” or “m”

In saying “m”, the sound is like saying word “emanuel”

Ø “N” or “n”

In saying “n”, the sound is like saying word “enter”

Ø “O” or “o”

In saying “o”, the sound is like saying word “open”

Ø “P” or “p”

In saying “p”, the sound is like saying word “pen”

Ø “Q” or “q”

In saying “q”, the sound is like saying word “cupid”

Ø “R” or “r”

In saying “r”, the sound is like saying word “around you”

Ø “S” or “s”

In saying “s”, the sound is like saying word “kiss”

Ø “T” or “t”

In saying “t”, the sound is like saying word “telephone”

Ø “U” or “u”

In saying “u”, the sound is like saying word “fool”

Ø V” or “v”

In saying “v”, the sound is like saying word “freedom”

Ø W” or “w”

In saying “w”, the sound is like saying word “well”

Ø “X” or “x”

In saying “x”, the sound is like saying word “X”

Ø “Y” or “y”

In saying “y”, the sound is like saying word “yell”

Ø “Z” or “z”

In saying “z”, the sound is like saying word “zero”

Aside alphabet letters above, there are combination of 2 letters that are pronounced in one letter.

Example :

Ø “ai”

In saying “ai”, the sound is like saying word “fine”.

Sampai : to arrive, till

Pandai : clever

Ø “au”

In saying “au”, the sound is like saying word “how”.

Kalau : if

Atau : or

In closed syllables it is two-syllabic

Haus : thirsty

Laut : sea

Ø “kh”

Occurs in borrowed words of Arabic origin and pronoun, like “ch” in the Scottish word “loch”

Akhir : end

Khusus : special

Ø “ng”

This sound may occur at the beginning, middle or end of a syllable and sounds like the “ng” in “singing”

Dengar : to hear

Petang : afternoon

Ø “ngg”

In saying “ngg”, the sound is like saying word “finger”

Anggur : wine

Tangga : staircase

Ø “ny”

In saying “ny”, the sound is like saying word “spaniard”

Bertanya : to ask

Menyanyi : to sing

I’ve taught you how to pronounce alphabet letters in Bahasa Indonesia. Try to pronounce them regularly by yourself . If you’re able to pronounce them well, it will assist you to understand all lessons which I’ll give you later.
